Here's the link

Here's a guy who writes a book on parkour and freerunning in order to teach beginners. Is his name (Mike Toal) familiar to you?

I'm just wondering what's the message he transmits through his book, can you really learn parkour from a book... ?
What are your opinions on this?

Hopefully Jerome, Dave or whoever can link this site to DBprod and get it taken down, plenty of image infringements not to mention it sounds like horse shit.

Tracer for dummys lol

WTF.

Elmit I don't think you can compare the Ariake with these book. The informations in this book can be shurely researched for free on several sites. OK Ariake is a kind of comercial stuff, but its not wearn by so many people because its sucks. And nobody would have it if he could get the same sort of shoe for free.

I'm not the author of the e-book in question, but I have been working towards getting a parkour related book put together for quite some time now, another member pointed me toward this thread and it has interested me.

My aims are however quite different: I want to produce a work that will educate the general public, try to show them the WHY of parkour. Explain the differences between parkour, acro, tricking, freerunning, etc, show them the youth culture surrounding the phenomenon. I have no desire to create a 'tutorial' which could only ever fail.

Naturally there is an uderlying selfish reason for me to create a book, and that is to showcase my photography (and perhaps make a few quid in return), but having spent enough time studying the discipline I can assure you that I want to do it justice.

Hopefully some of the members of WYPK can vouch for that.

Do you think what I'm attempting to do can work?

There are links to my work in this thread: -> http://archive.parkour.net/index.php?showtopic=14322

bennehboy being as your a fellow photographer (im AL|3N on trickery.net) i can completely understand where your coming from on the book side of things! the difference between what your doing, and what he is doing, is that you are making money from using your photography skills, but you happen to be a great photographer of parkour, and understand it just as much as some one that practices the art... where as this guy clearly doesn't and is just a bumbling idiot out to make money =/ i can atleast back your idea for your book, i personaly (no offence) wouldnt perchase it tongue.gif but im not a great fan of books, what with being dyslexic, but other photography lovers love books and i would recommend it to some one who wanted to know about parkour and see a great photographer smile.gif simple as...
