even though i already own it i will probably go and see it!
god, i just hope this release doesn't screw up parkour in america!
every dumbass will be trying to jump across buildings and getting themselves hurt.
*sorry for this next comment*
i am actually kind of hoping that B13 won't do to well in the theaters, because i don't want everyone being stupid and kill themselves. i also don't won't parkour to turn into a damn extreme sport in america.
marketing and shit would screw up parkour for us.
this may actually lead to a ban of parkour related activities in most places.

sorry to hit this release with such pessimistic beliefs but i just don't want parkour to become the new fad for america.

So..... does that mean you're accusing DB and Cyril of irresponsibly promoting Parkour, or at least PK-type activity to the masses, by starring in a big budget movie?

I don't think that it'll influence anyone more negatively than Rush Hour, or Jump london, or Yamakasi.

Of course they didn't come out in the US, but B13's been out in france for a while now, and as far as I know no ones been hurt trying to imitate the stunts.

Unless of course you think that Americans are more stupid or reckless than Europeans.

You don't think that do you?

True, +1, Takamatsu was the last true combat Ninja, But I could't find any decent quotes that were related to technique, as opposed to philosophy or combat.
So, I had to settle for his no 1 pupil.

Kong, people see martial arts movies....no one takes up martial arts. What makes you think it will be the same with parkour?

I was going to say the same thing....Like in ong bak....for people that saw that....It's not like people are out trying to hurdle barb wire rings or aerial in between panes of glass or double fronts off of tires....or any of the other crazy things he does....

If you are in America and want to know if it's playing near you for this initial June release, check out:
http://www.pkcali.com/content.php?article.20

I've put up a list of all the theaters nationwide in which it is being played.

gecko: of course i'm not accusing them of irresponibly promoting parkour! it's not their decision on what will happen and how the american public will take in parkour.
rush hour was a comedy that wasn't really focusing on a martial art. it was just an action movie to laugh at.
jump london: wasn't that big in america as far as i know and that didn't come out in theaters anyway.
yamakasi: i don't think 20,000 have even heard about Yamakasi. so that could have an impact.
District 13 on the other hand is actually coming out in theaters and it actually mentions parkour on the back of the dvd box. so people will probably research Parkour. but if they don't and they just go out and jump off of tall objects, then there in lies the problem.
b13 in france: many people in france already knew of parkour and i don't think that b13 had a huge impact there. (correct me if i'm wrong)

"unless you think americans are more stupid and wreckless than europeans"
no. i just think that we tend to take every thing to the "extreme" and become stupid and wreckless.

gmpianoman: people see martial arts movies just as a lot of action here in america. also many new martial arts movies are insanely unrealistic so no one thinks that they can do that. the older martial arts movies for most americans are to laugh at because of the crazy sounds and stuff.

zujitsu: hardly anyone in america has seen ong bak or Tom-Yum Goong so those movies don't really have an effect on the dumbasses that would go out and jump off of tall things unless your just making a specific example for all martial arts movies. oh and you'd be surprised how many people go and try what they see in movies.

i'm not saying that district 13 definately will have a negative effect on parkour. i'm just hoping that it won't.

Rush Hour is the BBC commercial, where he's on the rooves of london and parkours his way to his appartament.

Personaly, I'd be very happy if they called it freerunning on the DVD box. That way all the idiots will go kill themselves freerunning, and those of us who practice parkour won't get burned.

Our group did a demo for the opening in texas....and it went off without a hitch but people were asking how young do we train! It was pretty crazy that they automatically assumed there were classses for it....what a weird world....hope it doesn't mean we are going to have to be training people regularly....I mean we aren't even experienced enough ourselves...

It hits many theatres tomorrow. There aren't many big summer movies right now, so it may get some attention. They have advertising banners on rottentomatoes.com for it.

Keep your eyes open to see if it shakes up any interest. Bruce Lee generated a ton of interest and fan worship in 1973, without the internet.

I don't watch tv though, so I don't know how it is being marketed.

IGN has lots of advertising for it too...

i just wonder if it will make an entirley new parkour crowd, like the 'jump' channel 4 series did...

or perhaps not 'make' a new crowd, just get people that saw JL and JB back into it again.

I've been helping Magnolia a bit with this release.
I've put up a page on pkcali with some extra clips, pictures, and links that they have sent me to help advertise:

Pictures, clips and infos are also available on Parkour.NET and Parkour-videos.com :-)
